Project registration number at UL: ZD202521902
Project manager: Jeļena Kosmača
Project implementation period: 01.07.2025 - 31.08.2028
Total project cost: EUR 350,000
Funding: State Education Development Agency, ESF Plus project No. 4.2.2.3/1/24/I/001 “Establishment of a professional support system for teachers”
Project goal
To develop methodological support materials for the basic education subject “Physics” and the advanced secondary education course “Physics II” at the highest level of proficiency.
Project information
On July 1, 2025, a contract was signed between the State Education Development Agency, which implements the ESF Plus project No. 4.2.2.3/1/24/I/001 “Establishment of a professional support system for teachers”, and the University of Latvia. Under this agreement, the Agency, in cooperation with the University, commits to ensuring the development of methodological support materials for the basic education course “Physics” and the advanced secondary education course “Physics II”.
Withing the project, the physics curricula are being reviewed and improved to meet modern educational requirements and the needs of students at different educational levels. In collaboration with experts and teachers, researchers from the University of Latvia will develop methodological materials for physics in grades 8-9 and for the advanced physics course in grade 12. To support teachers, the materials will include thematic plans, recommendations for lesson structure, guidance for organizing students’ learning activities, and suggestions for assessing student performance. A variety of exercises with solutions will be provided to support differentiated instruction, as well as ideas for demonstrations and experiments, sample laboratory assignments, and tests. Monthly seminars will be held for physics teachers during the development process, where the authors will discuss the materials with teachers to jointly explore more effective ways of teaching physics. The materials will be piloted in several Latvian schools. The final materials will be freely accessible to physics teachers in a digital environment. The University of Latvia team will be responsible for updating and improving the materials over a two-year period based on teacher feedback.
